An anonymous bidder has offered a record $19 million for a private lunch with 91-year-old American billionaire Warren Buffett, at a New York City restaurant.

Lunch with the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway was offered at an eBay auction for the San Francisco-based Gleed charity, which helps the homeless and the poor.

Informed sources indicated, "The winner of the auction can bring about 7 guests to lunch."

Buffett has raised $53 million for "Glade" since the auctions began in 2000, as the charity had the support of the billionaire giver when his first wife, Susie, introduced him to her after she began volunteering there, who died in 2004.

This year's event is set to become the billionaire's first private lunch since the previous record-breaking $4.5 million bid by crypto pioneer Justin Sun in 2019.

On his part, Buffett said, "This auction will be the last."
