A search warrant has been issued on Thursday for Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin's phone in the investigation of the shooting on the set of his new movie “Rust“, court documents showed.

The tragedy occurred on Oct. 21 while actors were rehearsing for the movie at the Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe when one round was accidentally discharged from a loaded prop gun that Baldwin had been told was a cold or unloaded weapon.

The shooting killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza on the set of “Rust“.

The search warrant issued by the state of New Mexico

The warrant was issued by a Santa Fe court in New Mexico - the state where the movie was being filmed.

According to documents, investigators are allowed to seize Baldwin's Apple iPhone to examine text messages, email correspondence, social network communications, browser activity, and other information stored on the device.

A sheriff's detective, Alexandria Hancock, said in her affidavit that she sought a court order requiring Baldwin to turn over his phone after she had requested it from him and his attorney on a voluntary basis and was instructed to acquire a warrant.

Baldwin has previously acknowledged he was carrying a Colt .45 revolver pistol on the set when it went off during rehearsal, discharging a live round that killed Hutchins and injured Souza.

In his first interview since the shooting, the actor stated that he never pulled the trigger and denied responsibility for the accident.

He also pointed out that he had no idea how a live round got onto the set.
