The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the Arab Republic of Egypt proudly announced the successful organization of an international academic webinar titled “Tourism in Egypt and Venezuela: Government Perspectives and Future Horizons.”
The event, held today under the esteemed patronage of the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism, was guided by the constructive leadership of H.E. Ambassador Omar Wilmer Barientos.
This webinar formed part of strategic celebrations marking World Tourism Day and commemorated 75 years of fruitful diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Egypt. It underscored the Embassy’s firm commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and promoting active collaboration in the tourism sector.
The session was academically moderated by Professor Dr. Ibrahim Al-Assal, Cultural and Tourism Advisor to the Venezuelan Embassy, who skillfully directed the discussions and expressed deep appreciation for Ambassador Barientos’s pivotal role in shaping and supporting this ambitious joint tourism initiative.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Barientos emphasized the crucial importance of the webinar as a strategic platform for exploring new avenues of cooperation, fostering knowledge exchange, and ultimately building a prosperous and sustainable tourism future between the two nations.
The webinar brought together a distinguished group of academics and tourism experts from both Egypt and Venezuela. Representing Egypt, Dr. Ghada Hammoud, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at 6th of October University, delivered an insightful presentation on “Tourism and Tourism Patterns in Egypt.” She highlighted tourism’s strategic role as a cornerstone of Egypt’s economy and elaborated on the diverse and rich experiences offered by Egypt’s multifaceted tourism sector.
Following her, Dr. Ashraf Abdel-Maaboud, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Fayoum University, presented a comprehensive analysis on “The Economic Impact of Tourism in Egypt.” His detailed discussion examined tourism’s contribution to GDP and employment generation, supported by extensive data reflecting the strength and dynamism of Egypt’s tourism industry.
From Venezuela, Dr. Nathaly Miroslava Romero Castillo from the National Institute of Tourism (INATUR) and Dr. Raúl Enrique Benavides Martiatu from the National Experimental University “Simón Rodríguez” enriched the discussion with a joint presentation titled “Tourism in Venezuela in Numbers: Government Plans and Tourism Diversity.” They showcased Venezuela’s immense tourism potential, highlighting the country’s natural and cultural richness and the government’s ambitious projects aimed at modernizing and expanding the tourism sector.
The webinar concluded with a shared consensus on the importance of sustaining and expanding such initiatives to deepen mutual understanding, develop actionable joint plans, and enhance tourism exchange and investment between Egypt and Venezuela — all in pursuit of sustainable development and shared prosperity for both nations.
