American singer-actress Vanessa Hudgens is set to star in and executive produce the movie "Big Rig".

Filmmaker Martha Stephens will direct the project from a screenplay by Ryan Binaco.

Claude Dal Farra and Brian Keady of BCDF Pictures producing with Kelsey Law. Mister Smith Entertainment is launching global sales of the film at the upcoming Cannes market.

The movie is currently in pre-production and is slated to begin filming later this year.

"Big Rig" is centered around Bertie (Hudgens) taking a striking dramatic turn as a young mother who finds her freedom and herself on the open road as a big rig truck driver.

Bertie, living in a small town in Tennessee, is strapped for cash and shouldering most of the responsibility as she and her husband Sonny try to make ends meet for their three unruly young kids.

The mother-of-three decides to take matters into her own hands and secretly learns how to drive 18-wheelers and soon hits the open road.

Bertie is thrilled by her newfound sense of adventure and purpose as well as improving her family life.

However, these two sides of her life compete for her attention, forcing Bertie to decide where her heart really lies.

Hudgens began her career in musical theater and made her major break in 2006's "High School Musical".

She is best known for her roles in "Tick, Tick Boom!", "Dog Days", "The Knight Before Christmas", "Second Act", "Bad Boys For Life", and "The Princess Switch" trilogy.
