WASHINGTON, AUG 23(SEE)- The US Senate unanimously approved a bill on Thursday honoring late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat.
The Egyptian embassy in Washington said in a statement that the bill grants Sadat the Congressional Gold Medal in recognition of his historic achievements and his courageous contributions to the peace process in the Middle East.
In September last year, the Congress hosted a rally to support the bill, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of Sadat's birth and 40 years since the signing of the peace treaty.
