U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg visited Maadi Military Hospital today to inspect a mobile computed tomography (CT) scan unit helping Egyptian patients at the hospital. This unit is part of seven mobile medical units, including state-of-the-art x-ray and CT scan systems, from the United States to the Egyptian government.

“These mobile medical units will help to bolster Egypt’s health infrastructure, especially during emergencies, by being used in civilian hospitals. This is one visible manifestation of the United States’ commitment to support and bolster the health, wellbeing, and prosperity of the Egyptian people,” said U.S. Ambassador Herro Mustafa Garg.

The seven mobile medical units are part of a $10 million project facilitated by the U.S. State Department. The new units include one mobile infectious disease testing unit, four mobile x-ray trucks, and two trailers equipped with whole-body imaging capability that combines a CT system with an operating station. The units were manufactured by U.S. company Matthews Specialty Vehicles.

For over forty years, the governments of Egypt and the United States have partnered to improve the health and wellbeing of Egyptian families. Our joint efforts contributed to reducing maternal mortality rates by 78% and infant deaths by 88%, modernizing hospitals and clinics across the country, ending the scourge of polio, and strengthening Egypt’s health system to better prevent, detect, and respond to future health threats. Today’s delivery represents the newest chapter in the continuing, successful Egypt-U.S. partnership.
