Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu has been diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer, according to his medical team.
This announcement follows reports of Netanyahu, aged 75, undergoing surgery on Sunday due to an enlarged prostate gland.
Israel's Channel 12 officially confirmed the news, citing the diagnosis as reported by the medical team.
The head of the medical team accompanying the Prime Minister stated that the diagnosis of stage 3 prostate cancer adds complexity to his health condition.
This revelation comes after Netanyahu underwent a medical examination earlier.
The Israeli newspaper "Israel Hayom" reported that Justice Minister Yariv Levin will temporarily assume the duties of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his stay in the hospital following surgery conducted on Sunday.
The Jerusalem District Court also approved a request from Netanyahu's defense attorneys to postpone sessions where Netanyahu was scheduled to testify.
The report noted that Defense Minister Yisrael Katz will temporarily chair the Political-Security Cabinet (the "Cabinet") during Netanyahu's hospitalization.
Katz will have the authority to convene Cabinet meetings if necessary, while major decisions will remain under Levin's purview.
