Up to 30% Increase in Demand for Food Commodities During Ramadan

Ayman Al-Afandi, member of the Minya Chamber of Commerce revealed that the volume of demand for food commodities increased by 30%  during the holy month of Ramadan.

Al-Afandi stressed that the market condition is stable and all commodities are available, especially food commodities, vegetables, fruits, meat, poultry, and fish. Also, grocery stores and bakeries operate normally and open in their official hours.

He indicated that the chamber established an initiative, including operations room and crisis management to monitor the market situation and the availability of goods during the holy month.

Al-Afandi explained that this initiative is under the supervision of the Ministry of Supply and will be held inside commercial centers in all the centers of the governorates so that citizens benefit from discount reaching up to 5-20%.

He called for the necessity of the commitment of citizens, whether with regard to the curfew to ensure the safety of the Egyptian or with regard to the purchase of goods.

A member of the Minya Chamber of Commerce stressed that all citizens to avoid panic-buying, pointing out that citizens should only buy what is necessary for them and only according to their personal needs in light of the solidarity of all the concerned authorities to increase the supply of goods to ensure the stability of the market.

He pointed out that although supermarkets close at 5:00 pm, the consumer demand and to buy all their needs of food commodities until this time will not be affected.

It is worth mentioning that the Cabinet issued on Thursday a decision to extend the curfew hours until 9:00 pm, a decision which have a positive impact on the commercial activity.
