Bassel El Khatib, Director and UNIDO Representative of the Regional Hub in Egypt confirmed that the organization is in constant contact with the Egyptian government and the Ministry of Industry continues to discuss cooperation frameworks and benefit from expertise in order to support the Egyptian industry.
El Khatib said to Nile TV International that the UNIDO is in the process of developing future plans to activate and deepen cooperation frameworks with Egypt in a number of fields.
UNIDO's Director added that the plan includes support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Egypt by enabling them to apply quality standards in order to achieve sustainability and access to markets, in addition to supporting a number of other areas such as food safety, enhancing competitiveness of the private sector and supporting strategic value chains.
He pointed out that there is an ongoing dialogue on ways of cooperation between the two sides to promote comprehensive and sustainable industrial development in Egypt. "There are ongoing efforts to develop the organization to be an international hub for decision making related to industrial development, within the framework of transferring expertise and technology to ensure achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs)," El Khatib stressed.
He lauded Egypt's commitment to support industrial development efforts and projects in the region, including the exchange of Egyptian expertise within the African continent.
