Egypt's Minister of International Cooperation Rani Al Mashathe and United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt Elena Panova accompanied by the representatives of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) visited the primary health care unit in the village of Saft Al-Sharkiya, in Minya Governorate as part of the activities marking the UN Week in Egypt as a curtain raiser for the launch of the Strategic Partnership Framework between the United Nations and the Government of Egypt (2023-2027).

During the visit, they reviewed comprehensive child care and development services provided to children and families including the “Positive Parenting Programme” supported by UNICEF, under the umbrella of the National Committee for Positive Parenting that was established following a decree issued by H.E. Prime Minister, Dr. Moustafa Madbouly.

In his remarks, Dr. Fazlul Haque, UNICEF Deputy Representative said: "‏UNICEF is proud to support the Government of Egypt in advancing and scaling up the healthcare and wellbeing services through a holistic approach of hygiene, healthcare, nutritious, mental and psychological well-being with the focus on positive parenting to foster and enable child healthy growth and development."

"Evidence has shown that children, who receive attention, care, and affection, as well as consistent nonviolent discipline, are more likely to achieve their development and reach their full potential," Haque noted.

He continued: "The collaboration we see today at the Prime Health Unit between the Ministry of Health and Population, Ministry of Social Solidarity, Ministry of International Cooperation, Ministry of Planning, Minya Company for Water and Waste Water as well as the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, the National Council for women and our development partners shows the commitment of the Egyptian Government to support children well-being and to give them the chance to have a decent and happy life."

"All the UN agencies in Egypt are working collectively to achieve the SDGs and in line with Egypt’s vision 2030," he pointed out.
