The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced the results of the labor force for Q4 of 2021, where the unemployment rate reached 7.4% of the total labor force, compared to 7.5% in the previous quarter of 2021, a decline of 0.1%, and an increase of 0.2%, year-on-year.
The estimate of the unemployed amounted to 2.2 million, representing 7.4% of the total labor force (1,280 million males, 920 thousand females), compared to 2.211 million unemployed persons in Q3 of 2021, with a decline of 0.5%, and an increase of 1.6% year-on-year.
5.2% unemployment rate among males and 17.8% among females
The unemployment rate among males decreased by 5.2% in the current quarter, compared to 5.9% in the previous quarter, and 5.1% year-on-year.
The female unemployment rate rose to 17.8% in the current quarter, compared to 15.3% in the previous quarter, and 16.8% year-on-year.
The percentage of the unemployed in the age group (15-29 years) during the current quarter reached 64.3%, compared to 58.4% in the previous quarter.
The age group (20-24 years) reached 31.7% of the total unemployed (31% for males, 32.7% for females) compared to 29% in the previous quarter.
While, the age group (30-64 years) represented 35.7% of the total unemployed reaching (35.3% for males, 36.1% for females) during the current quarter, compared to 41.6% during the previous quarter.
The unemployment rate in urban areas recorded 11%, compared to 4.5% in rural areas
The urban unemployment rate declined to 11% of the total urban labor force, compared 11.4% in both the Q3 of 2021 and Q4 of 2020.
The unemployment rate in the countryside increased to reach 4.5% of the total rural labor force, compared to 4.4% in Q3 of 2021, and 4%, year-on-year.
