The attack on a resort in Iraq's northern Dohuk region on July 20 was strongly denounced by the UN Security Council on Monday. At least nine civilians died as a result of the attack, including children.
In a statement, the Security Council members expressed their condolences and deepest sympathies to the victims' families, the Iraqi government, and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. They also wished the injured a speedy and complete recovery and affirmed their support for the Iraqi authorities' investigation efforts.
They asked other Member States to fully support these investigations by working with the Iraqi government and all other appropriate authorities.
Reiterating its support for Iraq's independence, sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, democratic process, and prosperity.
The attack was carried out by "terrorists," according to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who said it was done to undermine relations between Turkey and Iraq.
Speaking to state-run media outlet TRT Haber, he noted that Turkey has informed the Iraqi government as well as its NATO allies, notably the United States, of its position about the attack.
He urged Iraq not to succumb for violent Kurdish propaganda.
