United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen called for an end to Israeli violations, reaffirming the UN’s support for the Syrian government and people in their pursuit of peace and internal stability through a comprehensive, transparent, and credible political transition.
According to the United Nations, this came following a meeting in Damascus between Pedersen and Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Hassan Al-Shibani, where they held extensive discussions on the political transition process, including the People’s Assembly, as well as regional and international dimensions.
A statement from the Special Envoy’s office noted that both sides discussed in detail the situation in Sweida and northeastern Syria, as well as the coastal region.
Pedersen reiterated the UN’s full support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while urging an end to Israeli violations and stressing the need to address Syria’s internal challenges through dialogue and genuine confidence-building efforts.
