The United Nations has allocated a total of $20 million to support urgent humanitarian needs in the Gaza Strip, according to Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.

The funding aims to deliver food, clean water, shelter, medical care, and operational support for critical facilities across the war-torn enclave.

Fletcher said the latest $11 million allocation comes from the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to strengthen ongoing relief efforts in Gaza.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) confirmed that the expansion of humanitarian aid operations in Gaza is progressing steadily, marking significant advances in the international effort to assist civilians affected by the conflict.

In a statement released Monday, OCHA said that, for the first time since March, shipments of cooking gas, food supplies, medical equipment, and shelter materials have entered Gaza. UN agencies and their partners have also continued distributing humanitarian assistance throughout the Strip.

The agency noted that the easing of movement and access restrictions in several areas has allowed critical medical and emergency supplies to reach the most vulnerable communities. Efforts are also underway to assess key roads for explosive hazards and support displaced families as winter approaches.

As part of the UN’s 60-day ceasefire response plan, the organization and its partners will expand operations to deliver life-saving assistance and essential services to nearly every person in Gaza.
