The Ukrainian military announced on Saturday that Russian forces have launched missile attacks on several areas in the southern part of the country over the past 24 hours.

According to the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, citing the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine on Telegram, Russian forces fired ballistic and guided missiles throughout the day at the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. Despite these aggressive actions, Ukrainian forces successfully destroyed one of the incoming missiles. However, the assault resulted in damage to a building.

The post detailed that "Russian missile strikes are ongoing, with air raid warnings in the south being declared every 5 to 15 minutes, lasting from one to two and a half hours."

During daylight hours, the Russian military targeted the Kherson and Mykolaiv areas with various missiles, including ballistic ones, presumably of the Iskander-M type, hitting open areas until noon without reported casualties.

From the Black Sea, Russian forces also launched guided missiles from tactical aircraft targeting infrastructure facilities in the Mykolaiv region.

"The Ukrainian defense forces were able to destroy one missile, but it was not possible to avoid damage completely. A vacant building suffered damages, but fortunately, there were no human casualties," stated the Ukrainian defense forces.

In a related incident, a 12-year-old child was injured due to Russian shelling in the Bilozerka area of the Zaporizhzhia region, as reported by Ivan Fedorov, head of the military administration in the area, on Telegram.

Moreover, soldiers from the Eastern Air Command of Ukraine shot down a Russian Kh-59 guided air missile in the Dnipropetrovsk region in the southeast of the country.

"The destruction occurred at approximately 14:50, in the Dnipro area of the Dnipropetrovsk region, where a unit from the Eastern Air Command downed a Kh-59 guided air missile," noted the Southern Command in a post on Facebook.

This ongoing conflict continues to see widespread international attention as efforts for peace remain elusive, with both sides sustaining losses and damages in the protracted conflict.
