Kyiv authorities banned the use of holiday lighting in order to save energy, the region’s governor, Oleksiy Kuleba, said on his Telegram.

Kuleba pointed out that “the use of festive lighting - wreaths, light decorations and the like - is prohibited on the territory of Kyiv.”

He clarified that this decision comes in line with necessary measures to “save energy. On municipal, commercial, and state properties.”

Last November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that about 40% of the country's energy infrastructure had been damaged, causing massive blackouts.

The President affirmed that the authorities and energy companies are preparing different action plans depending on possible scenarios.

“Whatever the terrorists want, we must survive this winter and become even stronger in the spring,” Zelenskyy said.
