The British government has announced fresh sanctions targeting dozens of Iranian individuals and entities linked to Tehran’s nuclear program, following similar steps by the United Nations and the European Union.
The move comes after the UK, France, and Germany triggered a process at the UN Security Council to reimpose sanctions on Iran, accusing Tehran of breaching the 2015 nuclear deal designed to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons. Iran denies pursuing nuclear arms.
Britain on Monday added 71 new names to its sanctions list, including senior figures in Iran’s nuclear program, major financial institutions, and leading energy companies. Those sanctioned now face asset freezes, financial restrictions, and travel bans.
On Sunday, the United Nations reinstated its arms embargo and other penalties against Iran in response to its nuclear activities, a decision that Tehran has vowed to counter with strong retaliation.
