Uefa Draws up Plan to End Season in August - Reports

Several reports revealed on Monday that the Uefa is drawing up plans to end the ongoing season, which were suspended due to coronavirus pandemic, in August.

It is worth mentioning that the Uefa postponed the final games of the Uefa Champions League and the Europa League until an unknown date due to coronavirus outbreak.

The Times reported that the Uefa is formulating a plan to end the currently suspended football season during the upcoming summer, provided that a solution to the effects of such decision on the upcoming season.

The newspaper added that the Uefa would face another problem in the next season if it ends the ongoing season in August.

The problem, which will be caused because of such a decision, is that the Uefa has to end the upcoming season in May because of the Euro 2020, which was postponed to take place between June and July 2021.

The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating effect on football in Europe.

On March 28, Uefa President Aleksander Čeferin said on Saturday that there are three options, offered to resume all the competitions in Europe.

In statements to SkySports, the Uefa president said: ” We do not know when exactly the coronavirus pandemic will end, and we can not draw up a plan for completing the ongoing season.”

“We have three options to resume the football activity,” he said.

“The first one is to resume the competitions in mid-May or in June,” Čeferin said.

Čeferin added that the second option is to cancel the season if the competitions would not be resumed in June.

The third option is to resume the activities in the summer and this means that the beginning of the next season will be delayed.
