The U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will kick off later on Friday, as hosts Egypt will clash against Mali at Cairo International Stadium in the opening game of the tournament.
The opening encounter will be preceded by a historic opening ceremony, which is set to start at 16:45 and end at 18:15 CLT as it will be held for half an hour. Regarding the U-23 AFCON itself, it will be held from November 8 to November 22.
The Pharaohs were drawn in Group A at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, alongside Mali, Ghana, and Cameroon, while holders Nigeria were pooled in Group B, alongside Ivory Coast, Zambia, and South Africa.
The eight national teams participating in this tournament are set to play all their clashes at Cairo International Stadium and Al Salam Stadium.
The top three positions at the tournament will qualify automatically to represent Africa at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The tournament came after Egypt dazzled the world when it hosted the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations
Egypt’s U-23 national team head coach Shawky Gharib named his 21-man squad for U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Egypt.

Defenders: Osama Galal (ENPPI), Mohamed Sadek (Wadi Degla), Ahmed Ramadan (Wadi Degla), Mahmoud El-Gazzar (El-Gouna), Mohamed Abdelsalam (Zamalek), Ahmed AboulFetouh (Smouha), Karim El-Eraki (Al Masry).
Midfielders: Akram Tawfik (El Gouna), Ammar Hamdi (Al Ahly), Nasser Maher (Smouha), Ghanam Mohamed (Entag El-Harby), Ramadan Sobhi (Al Ahly SC), Emam Ashour (Zamalek).
