On Thursday, at least three Iraqi women and a policeman were killed in two roadside bomb explosions in Iraq's eastern province of Diyala, according to local reports.

Mayor of the town Shakir al-Tamimi said that blasts took place a village near the town of Abbara in the northeast of the provincial capital Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad when a roadside bomb hit a tuk-tuk, whle the second explosion struck a police vehicle.

The two attacks resulted in the killing of three women and a policeman, in addition to the injury of two policemen and two civilians, al-Tamimi said.

The attacks came as the extremist ISIS militants have intensified their attacks on the security forces and civilians in the formerly ISIS -controlled Sunni provinces, resulting in the killing and wounding of dozens.

The security situation in Iraq has been improving since Iraqi security forces fully defeated the ISIS militants across the country late in 2017.

However, ISIS remnants have since melted in urban areas or deserts and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians.
