Twitter has suspended more than 70,000 accounts that were primarily dedicated to sharing QAnon content after last week's violence in U.S when supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol. "These accounts were engaged in sharing harmful QAnon-associated content at scale and were primarily dedicated to the propagation of this conspiracy theory across the service", Twitter said.

Meanwhile, QAnon backers have pushed conspiracies on social media that include the baseless claim that Trump secretly is fighting a cabal of child-sex predators, among them prominent Democrats, figures in Hollywood and "deep state" allies.

Moreover, Twitter’s announcement comes as social media companies step up their efforts to rid their services of content that could lead to violence like the events of the insurgency at the U.S. Capitol. On other hand, the company’s shares closed down more than 6% on Monday.

Since Twitter banned President Donald Trump from its platform, his supporters began planning to protest the decision at the tech company's San Francisco headquarters on Monday.

Dozens of San Francisco police officers were called in for security. They erected a barricade outside of the Twitter building near the city's downtown area to prepare for what was anticipated to be a major demonstration in defense of the president.
