Turkish authorities have detained three members of the Muslim Brotherhood who were accused of planning an attempt to storm the Egyptian Consulate in Istanbul, according to regional media reports.
The suspects, who are residents in Turkey, were arrested on Saturday and placed in custody pending prosecution. They were classified under terrorism-related charges, following their alleged involvement in coordinated campaigns targeting Egyptian diplomatic missions abroad, including the consulate in Istanbul.
Reports indicate that the arrests stem from the group’s participation in Brotherhood-led efforts calling for the closure and storming of Egyptian embassies and consulates overseas. Following the detentions, supporters affiliated with the group reportedly launched social media campaigns from Istanbul, urging Brotherhood leaders and Turkish authorities to release the three detainees and prevent their deportation to Egypt.
