U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he expects his upcoming visit to China to be “great,” confirming he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping during the trip.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also revealed that he held talks with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng to prepare for Trump’s anticipated visit to Beijing in mid-May.

In a post on X, Bessent said he looks forward to a productive summit between the two leaders.

The visit had originally been scheduled for late March but was postponed due to U.S. military operations involving Iran, according to the White House. It had been planned to take place between March 31 and April 2.

A White House official told NBC News that the trip remains a top priority for the administration, stressing that there is no desire to delay it again. The official added that the visit could play a role in shaping decisions related to Iran.

The planned summit is now seen as a key factor in broader diplomatic efforts, as Washington seeks to stabilize tensions and align its foreign policy agenda.

The development comes amid internal pressure on Trump to bring an end to the Iran conflict, with national security considerations at the forefront.

In a related development, a senior administration official said hostilities between the United States and Iran have effectively ended, citing compliance with the War Powers framework.

The official noted that both sides agreed to a two-week ceasefire starting April 7, which was later extended, and that no exchanges of fire have occurred since then.
