Iran has informed mariners operating in the Strait of Hormuz that it will conduct military exercises using live ammunition on Sunday and Monday, according to Agence France-Presse.

The announcement comes as part of routine military drills regularly conducted by Iran in the strategically vital waterway, which is one of the world’s most important maritime corridors for global oil and gas shipments. A significant portion of the world’s energy exports passes through the strait, making any military activity in the area closely monitored by international shipping and maritime authorities.

Shipping companies and maritime security agencies typically treat such notices with caution, as live-fire exercises can affect navigation safety and disrupt commercial traffic, particularly amid heightened regional tensions.

In a related development, the Iranian Army announced on Thursday that it has added 1,000 drones of various types to its military inventory, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency. The drones are reportedly designed to address modern threats and incorporate lessons learned from recent regional conflicts, including confrontations with Israel in June.
