U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday his intention to raise tariffs on European Union (EU) cars and trucks imported into the United States by 25%, citing what he described as the EU’s “failure to fully comply” with the existing trade agreement with Washington.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, which was reported by the Associated Press, Trump stated: “Due to the European Union’s incomplete compliance with the trade agreement we signed, I will next week increase tariffs on EU-imported cars and trucks by 25%.”

The planned increase represents a significant escalation in transatlantic trade tensions, potentially affecting automotive manufacturers across Europe and raising concerns over global supply chains.
