Train derails in Taiwan, 36 killed

Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation said at least 36 people died after a train derailed inside a tunnel in the east of the country on Friday.

The Transportation Ministry added that 72 others were injured in the accident. the Taiwan Fire Department said the train which was travelling from Taipei to Taitung derailed in a tunnel, while some of its vehicles crashed into the tunnel wall.

The train was carrying about 350 people. The rescue operations were continuing.
