Ibrahim El-Sigini, Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry for Economic Affair said that a study is currently underway to include the ceramic industry for the first time in the export recovery program that the government is currently implementing, in a way that contributes to enhancing the exports of this vital sector.

This came during the inauguration of the 8th exhibition for  ceramics, porcelain and sanitary ware "Ceramica Market", which is held during the period from February 25-28 for a period of 4 days at the Cairo International Conference Center.

El-Sigini said that the exports of the ceramic sector to foreign markets last year amounted to about $149 million, as it enjoys good competitiveness advantage over foreign products.

He added that the sector meets most of the local market demand, where the local component in the ceramic industry reaches 90%.

He pointed out that the ministry has taken a number of steps during the past few months that have benefited the ceramic and porcelain sector, including a ban on ceramics and porcelain imports for a period of 3 months, with the aim of preserving the productivity rates of the Egyptian industry from the repercussions of the pandemic.
