Amazon Prime Video released Tuesday the first trailer for the biographical thriller movie “Thirteen Lives”, based on the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue in Thailand.

In 2018, junior football team The Wild Boars and their 25-year-old coach were trapped for weeks in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Chiang Rai Province in northern Thailand, after heavy rainfall flooded the cave system and blocked their way out.

The Wild Boars consisted of  12 boys aged 11 to 16 and their coach remained trapped for 18 days.

The disaster attracted global interest and an international rescue team was assembled to locate them.

Ron Howard directs from a screenplay written by William Nicholson, based on a story Nicholson developed with Don MacPherson.

“Thirteen Lives” depicts the events of the rescue and focuses on the efforts of the pers to save the trapped team members.

The movie stars Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell, Joel Edgerton, Tom Bateman Sahajak ‘Poo’ Boonthanakit, Teeradon ‘James’ Supapunpinyo, Paul Gleeson, Pattrakorn Tungsupakul, Tui Thiraphat Sajakul, James Teeradon Supapunpinyo, Weir Sukollawat Kanaros Thira ‘Aum’ Chutikul, and Popetorn ‘Two’ Soonthornyanaku.

“Thirteen Lives” features Mortensen and Farrell as Rick Stanton and John Volanthen, the British cave pers who volunteered their expertise to help find the group alongside Australian per and anesthetist (Edgerton) and Chris Jewell (Bateman).

Sahajak ‘Poo’ Boonthanakit portrays Governor Narongsak, who headed the rescue operation, and Teeradon ‘James’ Supapunpinyo plays Ekkaphon Chanthawong, the team’s assistant coach.

The trailer promises audiences that they will witness the greatest rescue, the world has ever seen.

The footage followed the young boys entering the cave system on a whim, only to become entombed by the powerful, rushing water that floods it.

“It looks easy, but when it’s flooded, it’s impossible,” Volanthen warns about the cave, while Stanton is later shown explaining that the ping pathway is barely shoulder wide, pulling against very strong currents.

The footage also depicts the daring and dangerous rescue attempt as Stanton, Volanthen, Harris, and Jewell worked with Thai officials — including Commander Kiet ( Chutikul) and Dr. Karn (Soonthornyanaku)— in an effort to reascue the team and their coach despite the odds.
