Real Madrid have secured the future of veteran goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois after reaching an agreement on a new one-year contract extension that will keep the Belgian at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2027.
According to reports, the agreement has already been signed, with the extension following Real Madrid's long-standing policy of offering one-year renewals to players in their mid-thirties.
However, the Spanish club is expected to reopen discussions with Courtois after the summer transfer window over the possibility of extending his stay even further.
Despite dealing with injuries over the past two seasons, Courtois remains Real Madrid's undisputed first-choice goalkeeper whenever fit.
The 34-year-old recently suffered a groin injury during Belgium's World Cup quarter-final defeat to Spain, forcing him to leave the tournament prematurely.
Real Madrid officials continue to regard the experienced shot-stopper as one of the team's key leaders on and off the pitch, maintaining complete confidence in his ability despite his recent fitness setbacks.
Courtois joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2018 and has since enjoyed a trophy-laden spell in Spain, winning multiple La Liga titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, and several domestic honors.
The contract extension also clarifies Real Madrid's goalkeeping plans ahead of the new season, with Andriy Lunin expected to remain the club's second-choice goalkeeper while competing for opportunities in domestic cup competitions and during squad rotation.
With Jose Mourinho preparing for his first full season back in charge following a summer of significant squad changes, Real Madrid view stability in key positions as a priority, making Courtois' renewal an important step in the club's long-term planning.
