The Egyptian kilim has global fame, as it is crafted manually on the loom of the finest natural wool or Egyptian cotton, which is famous for its quality. It is made by the hands of skilled craftsmen who inherited the workmanship and looms from their parents and grandparents.

This traditional art was revived thanks to the Egyptian designers who introduced modern designs, and contemporary colors. The kilim became decoration at small simple homes and large luxurious homes.

Lamiaa Ezz Eldeen, a young Egyptian graduate of the Faculty of Commerce at Cairo University and employee as senior communications specialists at Al Tadamun Microfinance Foundation, chose the kilim, something she loves, to be her life project.

“I love the kilim. It was at my grandmother and mother's home for ages. I love it because the kilim is an authentic Egyptian piece that lives with you and can be passed on to your children,” Ezz Eldeen said.

She added: “I love natural and environmentally friendly materials that add positive energy to the place per the Feng Shui science. The art of kilim making has been gradually disappearing, especially after 2011, after we used to export it to Arab countries and Europe during the era of Muhammad Ali Pasha,”.

Ezz Eldeen stated that the “Loomi Kilim” vision was created after she began wondering why doesn't she create new and modern designs for kilims while preserving the Egyptian pattern to fit the current era and spread the Egyptian craftsmanship all over the world.

“Why not and we have very professional craftsmanship and natural materials such as wool and cotton that is known around the world with its quality,” she stated.

The designer also felt a social responsibility towards the city of Fuwah, in Kafr El-Sheikh as more than 70% of the people of Fuwah works at kilim workshops.

Ezz Eldeen also offered advice for those who desire to work in what they love for a living.

“I advise anyone who works in what they love to be patient and to look for the value of what they are doing.” She said.
