The award-winning international artist Tamer Hosny has been named as a Global Ambassador for  Extreme E, the innovative all-electric series which uses sport for positive purpose, ahead of the Championship’s opening X Prix of Season 2 in NEOM, Saudi Arabia, this weekend (February 19-20).

Tamer, the multi-talented singer, actor, songwriter, composer, movie writer and director who has penned chart topping albums and movies in Egypt and the Middle East, will bring new fans and audiences to Extreme E in support of the Championship’s ‘Race for the Planet’ purpose driven mission, which in 2022 begins in the stunning desert setting of NEOM.

Tamer has a career full of achievements that started in 2002, achieving fantastic numbers as the highest sales of albums and Arabic films in Egypt and the Middle East. The Egyptian has achieved astronomical figures by reaching 2.5 billion views for his entire work on the YouTube platform.

INTERNATIONAL ARTIST TAMER HOSNY NAMED GLOBAL AMBASSADOR FOR EXTREME E

Hosny said: “Extreme E is super exciting and I feel very proud to be taking this new role as Global Ambassador.

“Together we share a vision for a sustainable future that protects the environment for our future children. As a series, Extreme E aims to educate and entertain new audiences about how climate change is affecting the areas in which we race, and the solutions we can and must all be a part of as we all take global responsibility. These goals are things I feel passionately about and I look forward to sharing more about it with my fans.”

Alejandro Agag, CEO and Founder of Extreme E said: “We are delighted that Tamer will join us as a Global Ambassador for Extreme E and look forward to exploring ideas on how we can work together in the future using our shared passions for solutions and create awareness using his worldwide fan base. He is a two-time Guinness Book of World Records holder for his effectiveness as an artist to organize fan support for projects."

Extreme E sees electric SUVs competing in extreme environments around the world which have already been damaged or affected by climate and environmental issues.

The five-race global voyage highlights the impact of climate change and human interference in some of the world’s most remote locations and promotes the adoption of electric vehicles in the quest for a lower carbon future for the planet.

To minimise local impact, Extreme E races will not be open to spectators, with fans instead invited to follow the action through live TV broadcast, and on social media.

As well as raising awareness, Extreme E works alongside local experts, governments and NGOs to implement positive legacy initiatives in each race location dependent on regional needs.

Examples of Legacy Programmes in Season 1 have included; the funding of a turtle conservation project along the Red Sea coastline; the planting of one million mangroves with NGO TO.org and Oceanium in Senegal; cocoa agroforestry and Amazon conservation with The Nature Conservancy in Pará state, Brazil; and the creation of a climate education syllabus for over 3,500 school children across Greenland with UNICEF.

You can watch Extreme E’s Season 2 opening race in NEOM live on MBC Action, Dubai Sports and SSC and beIN across Egypt and the Middle East, or via www.extreme-e.com.

The Desert X Prix Final will be held on Sunday, with the Semi-Finals programme running from 0800-0930 and the Final from 1100-1300, Eastern European Standard Time (+1 hour for KSA timings).

Following NEOM, the series will continue on to Sardinia, Italy (May 7-8), Scotland, UK, or Senegal, (July 9-10), Antofagasta, Chile, September (10-11), before its finale in Punta del Este, Uruguay, in November (26-27).
