Tamer Abdel Moneim, Italian Cultural Advisor Sign New Cooperation Protocol

Tamer Abdel Moneim, Director General of Cinematic Culture and head of the Cinema Palace, signed Tuesday a cooperation protocol with the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute Davide Scalmani, on exchange activities on the cinematic level and transfer cultures between the two countries.

The cooperation is held under the auspice of the Minister of Culture, Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, and comes within the framework of cultural cooperation between Italy and Egypt.

The protocol includes holding a monthly Italian cinema club at the cinema palace and a monthly Egyptian cinema club at the headquarters of the Italian Cultural Institute of Cairo.

It also entails hosting Italian cinematographers to give specialized lectures at the cinema palace to transfer experiences and open new angles for cinema lovers in Egypt.

On the publication level, the two parties agreed to publish Italian cinematic studies in a white and black magazine issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and translated into the Arabic language.

It was also decided to host "Cinema Al Shaab" in some of its avenues and screen modern Italian films in parallel with its presentation in Italy and the United States.

Mr. Skmani stated that the protocol will launch on September 1st.

For his part, Abdel Moneim expressed his happiness with the protocol and stated that the Italian and Egyptian cinema is one of the most important and oldest cinemas in the world, and the issue of exchanging experiences between the two sides will be a useful thing for the Egyptian and Italian audiences.

He also pointed out that the step of screening the modern Italian films in Egypt at the people's cinema was an important step, stressing that there will be a committee that will watch the films to show them to the Censorship On Artistic Works to be edited for the screening.

Abdel Moneim added that the film may be screened during the morning period alongside the Egyptian films, and noted that it will be shown at "Cinema Al Shaab" in Sharm El-Sheikh and Alexandria throughout the day.

Stressing that the exchange will be popular with the Egyptians and the foreigners. The protocol may include hosting the famous Italian Film Week Pazolini in all governorates after the El Gouna Film Festival in October.
