Egypt's Minister of Supply Ali El-Moselhy confirmed that the strategic reserve of commodities is safe in the country, including wheat is sufficient for 3.6 months, in addition to the harvest season, which will start on April 15.
"We consume 16 million tons of wheat annually, of which 9 million tons are used for bread production and the rest for the private sector," El-Moselhy said, noting that 8.5 to 9 million tons of wheat are produced annually.
He also pointed out that we have a self-sufficiency rate ranging from 85 to 90% of sugar, as "we expected to produce 2.7 million tons, while consumption reaches 3.2 million annually," pointing out that the reserve is sufficient for 3.6 months.
"We have self-sufficiency of rice, and there are 4 months of cooking oil reserves," he emphasized, pointing out that 100 tons of chicken will be offered daily in Ramadan in consumer complexes, in addition to 50 tons of frozen Brazilian meat at EGP 65 per kilo. The minister pointed out that the ministry will also offer 4,800 calves in the holy month.
