Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabie confirmed that the project to develop the historic dome building of the authority will not affect the historical and architectural value of the building, but rather includes investing in its unique location overlooking the canal to become an attractive tourist and cultural destination, denying false claims of selling the historical building.
Rabie said, in a press statement in response to the questions monitored on social media about the project to develop the historic dome building of the Suez Canal, that the authority has a long history that it is proud of and always seeks to preserve the architectural and archaeological heritage of its facilities by continuing restoration work and exploiting it optimally without compromising its cultural and architectural value.
Rabie added that the vision for developing the Dome building is still under study, as all appropriate proposals for how to invest in the site and achieve optimal use of the building are being discussed with the relevant authorities, considering the Dome building as one of the Authority’s main assets, protected by force of law.
"The development vision must take into account preserving the building’s archaeological character and be consistent with the state’s ambitious strategy to encourage maritime tourism and serve the development goals of Port Said Governorate," he concluded.
