Researchers from the Brunel University in London conducted a study answering why so many people share every workout on social media. The results were that people who constantly post their workouts on social media have ingrained psychological problems and are addicted to attention and esteem.

The research states that those types of people tend to be "narcissists" at term describing those with extreme selfishness, with a grandiose view of their own talents and a craving for admiration. According to the researchers, the main goal is to boast about how much time you invest in your looks. Apparently, these status updates also earn more Facebook likes than other kinds of posts, especially involving some overwhelming achievements like lifting heavy weights or running a long distance in the shortest amount of time.

"Narcissists more frequently updated about their achievements, which was motivated by their need for attention and validation from the Facebook community", the study concludes. The high number of likes doesn't necessarily mean everyone loves seeing those bragging posts, though.

Dr Tara Marshal goes on saying, that "although our results suggest that narcissists' bragging pays off because they receive more likes and comments to their status updates, it could be that their Facebook friends politely offer support while secretly disliking such egotistical displays."
