The Libyans are awaiting the announcement by the High Electoral Commission of the date of opening the door for candidacy for the parliamentary and presidential elections in the country, especially after the international community emphasized the need to hold the elections on time, according to the Russian Sputnik news agency.

The Commission is awaiting a final step from Parliament, by referring the two electoral laws after the amendment to them within the framework of the observations made by the Commission, which are not essential.

Parliament is scheduled to hold a midweek session on October 28, but the agenda has not been announced.

According to an official source in the High Elections Commission, "Parliament has not sent the amendments to the two laws until today to the High Commission, which will determine the opening of candidacy after this step and the formation of the Appeals Committee."

Parliament was scheduled to send the amendments during the past week, especially after it approved most of the observations referred to by the commission.

The source confirmed to "Sputnik" that "the commission is continuing to complete the procedures, and is waiting for the amendments to be referred by Parliament, as it seeks to open the door for candidacy on the first of next November."

The source believes that "the appropriate date for opening the door for candidacy is the first of November so that it can take the stages related to the elections with complete comfort, up to the date of December 24."

The source clarified that the delay in opening the door for candidacy from the first of November means the possibility of moving the date of the elections by a few days.

In the same context, the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Libya, Jan Kubis, announced the start of the work of the first group of international ceasefire monitors in Tripoli on October 10, during the first period until arrangements for their deployment in Sirte are completed.
