Tottenham Hotspur announced on Sunday the signing of Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a four-year contract. "The full-back has signed a contract until 2024 and will wear the number two shirt", the spurs official website stated.

Financial details of the Doherty's transfer were not disclosed but British media reported the club paid 15 million pounds ($20 million) to secure the 28-year old Ireland international.

Doherty initially moved to Wolves from League of Ireland side Bohemians in July 2010.

A consistent performer, Doherty has missed just seven league matches in the last four seasons.

He has featured in 95 games in all competitions since Wolves returned to the Premier League in 2018, contributing 15 goals and 15 assists in that time.

“I’m extremely happy … I’m very proud to be joining such a big club,” Doherty told Spurs' website. "My time at Wolves was fantastic... But coming here, it just feels like it's going to take my game and my career to the next level."

Tottenham's manager Jose Mourinho said:" I hate to play against him (Doherty), so I'm so happy I won't play against him again! I'm so happy that we have him".
