The Spanish government has announced the cancellation of a €700 million arms contract with Israeli defense company Elbit Systems, which was intended for the acquisition of advanced PULS artillery systems.

This marks the second cancellation within a month, following Spain’s decision to halt a €270 million deal to purchase Spike missiles from Israel’s Rafael. Together, the scrapped agreements amount to nearly €1 billion in cancelled arms deals.

According to Israeli media, the PULS contract was originally signed in October 2023 under Spain’s SILAM program, which aimed to locally produce advanced rocket launchers. The deal included 12 launchers, as well as radars, drones, and support vehicles, with integration into Spain’s domestic defense production through companies such as Escribano Mechanical & Engineering and Rheinmetall Expal Munitions.

The PULS system, developed by Elbit, is known for its precision strikes at ranges of up to 300 kilometers, along with high mobility and operational flexibility. The program was designed to enhance Spain’s artillery capabilities while fostering industrial cooperation with Spanish defense firms.
