President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed that Egypt has established a dedicated fund to honor martyrs and those wounded in the line of duty, covering sacrifices made since 1948 across successive generations of national struggle.

Speaking during his address at the 74th Police Day celebration, President El-Sisi explained that the state created the Martyrs and Injured Fund around eight to nine years ago, supported by a dedicated law, stressing that the purpose goes beyond procedures or material measures.

“I am not speaking today about the steps we have taken for these families, as that is not the point,” the President said. “What matters is that we established a fund—by law—to honor the martyrs and the injured.”

President El-Sisi detailed that the fund covers martyrs and wounded from all major phases of Egypt’s modern history, beginning with the 1948 war, followed by the wars of 1956 and 1967, the War of Attrition, and the October 1973 War. He added that the fund also includes civilians who supported the Armed Forces during those periods.

The President emphasized that the fund extends to martyrs and injured from more recent confrontations, including those who fell while combating terrorism, whether from the Armed Forces, the Police, the judiciary, or the diplomatic corps.

“We have not left behind any martyr—whether I was in office or not,” El-Sisi stated. “We have reached out to all available martyr families, and if there is any family we can still support, including grandchildren of martyrs, we will continue to do so. This is a long history that began in 1948.”

He underscored that honoring martyrs is a moral and national obligation, reflecting Egypt’s deep appreciation for those who sacrificed their lives to protect the country, stressing that their legacy remains a cornerstone of the nation’s identity and resilience.
