Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi attended the official ceremony marking the 74th anniversary of Police Day, held to commemorate the historic Battle of Ismailia on January 25, 1952, when Egyptian police forces demonstrated exceptional courage in defending national sovereignty.

The celebration began with a recitation from the Holy Quran and featured presentations highlighting the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in safeguarding national security and combating crime. Artistic performances were also staged, reflecting the daily sacrifices made by police officers across Egypt in the line of duty.

The event was attended by Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik, along with senior state officials, national figures, and public personalities, in a scene reflecting the state’s appreciation of the Egyptian Police and their vital role in preserving stability.

Police Day is observed annually to honor the memory of the Battle of Ismailia, when Egyptian police officers stood their ground against British occupation forces, refusing to surrender the governorate building or lower the Egyptian flag. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, they upheld their duty, sacrificing their lives in defense of dignity, sovereignty, and national pride.

From that defining moment in 1952 to the present day, the mission of the Egyptian Police has continued across evolving fronts—from resisting occupation to confronting terrorism, organized crime, and threats to internal security. While challenges and tools have changed over time, the core mission remains unchanged: protecting the nation and its citizens at all costs.

Over the decades, police officers have paid a heavy price in the fight against extremism and criminal networks, securing streets, villages, and institutions, often under direct threat. These sacrifices, officials emphasized, are not isolated acts, but part of a continuous national effort to ensure safety and stability.

The 74th anniversary of Police Day stands not only as a formal commemoration, but as a national reminder that the security Egyptians enjoy today is the result of years of vigilance, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment—ensuring that Egypt’s flag remains raised and its people live in safety.
