Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) held a series of intensive meetings with leading Japanese companies across sectors including heavy industry, food processing, synthetic fibers, and infrastructure, aiming to deepen industrial and technological partnerships between Egypt and Japan, as part of a high-level promotional tour in Tokyo.
The meetings were attended by Ragy El-Etreby, Egypt’s envoy to Japan, and Mohamed Abdel-Gawad, Egypt’s Trade Minister Plenipotentiary in Tokyo.
Gamal El-Dien began his engagements with Kawasaki Heavy Industries, one of Japan’s largest conglomerates specializing in heavy equipment, transport technologies, and energy systems. Discussions focused on localizing mechanical equipment manufacturing within the SCZone and exploring green hydrogen and related infrastructure projects.
He then met with executives from Megmilk Snow Brand Co., a major player in Japan’s dairy and food industries. Talks centered around the potential establishment of a fully integrated dairy production and packaging facility in the SCZone to serve regional and global markets, reinforcing food supply chains between Egypt and Japan.
In a strategic finance-focused meeting, the SCZone Chairman held discussions with Takesada Tatsuhiko, CEO of the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (JOIN). The talks explored collaboration in financing and developing infrastructure, industrial zones, and logistics hubs under SCZone’s jurisdiction.
Further reinforcing industrial ties, Gamal El-Dien met with Toray Industries, a global leader in chemicals, synthetic fibers, and composite materials, to explore local production of water desalination membranes, aligning with SCZone’s strategy to localize components for renewable energy and green fuel projects.
The Chairman also sat with executives from Kanematsu Corporation, a diversified Japanese trading and industrial company. The two sides discussed joint opportunities in chemical manufacturing and renewable energy component localization, supporting SCZone’s transition towards sustainable, green industries.
Commenting on the meetings, Waleid Gamal El-Dien emphasized Egypt’s ambition to expand strategic partnerships with Japan and integrate advanced Japanese technologies within the SCZone’s growing industrial ecosystem.
“The Suez Canal Economic Zone offers a uniquely integrated business environment, combining world-class ports, industrial zones, and modern infrastructure,” he said. “It is an ideal platform for Japanese companies seeking access to African, Arab, and European markets.”
Gamal El-Dien reiterated the SCZone’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing, localization of key industries, and building resilient regional supply chains. He also highlighted the zone’s focus on green energy, infrastructure development, and industrial innovation as core drivers of future growth.
The visit also included SCZone’s participation in the Hydrogen Energy for Climate Action (HENCA) 2025 conference, where the Chairman presented the SCZone’s vision for attracting high-value investments and supporting Egypt’s green economic transition.
