Saturday's diet: Food and Beverages strengthening hair

‘SEE’  continues in this section advising its readers with nutrition tips that help them to remain healthy life. This week’s tip is on the food and beverages that strengthen the hair.

The generous content is analyzed by Dr. Hisham Elamry, Professor of nutrition, member at the American Society of Nutrition, member at Egyptian British Society for the Study of Obesity Diseases. He holds  a General Diploma in Sports Nutrition from the American Society of Health.

- Meat and chicken: rich in protein substances that provide hair with the amino acids for maximum growth, as less proteins weaken hair.

- Spinach: rich in biotin vitamin useful for hair, especially for the fats produced by skin. Less biotin means weak hair.

- Carrots: rich in beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A, very useful for hair growth.

- Whole grains:  provide hair with vitamins B group which is very important to a healthy hair and resist  gray hair and restore the natural color. These are very important as well in helping the production of oil substance which maintains the moisture of hair through iron and zinc.

- Dark leafy vegetables such as ‘molokheyya’ and arugula, rich in vitamins and minerals that help with the production of the oil substance of hair.

- Flax and fish, especially salmonids, oyster and sardine, rich in fatty acids, omega 3 which are important to a healthy hair.

 

- Eggs rich in high-quality proteins with all essential and non-essential amino acids.

- Nuts rich in proteins and fatty acids that strengthen hair and help in its treatment, and provide it zinc and selenium.

 

- Legumes: Lentils, beans, and chickpeas have a good amount of protein, iron and zinc.

- Liver: one of the richest foods with different iron element to prevent hair loss.

 

-Low-fat dairy products are a good source of calcium, proteins and vitamins for hair growth.

- Avocado: Contains vitamin E and unsaturated fat for healthy hair growth.

- Berries: include antioxidants that increase hair growth and scalp health.
