Samir Farag: October War Changes World’s Tactics

6 October University has mounted a forum for Maj. Gen. Samir Farag, Former Head the Armed Forces Guiding Affairs Department and one of heroes of 6 October War, about the still-hidden secrets of the war.

That forum came within festivals held in Egypt to mark the 46th anniversary of the war.

Dr Ahmed Zaki Badr, Head of Trustees’ Board of the university and Dr Gamal Sami, President of the university attended the seminar.

Maj. Gen. Farag, said over his lecture that covered 46 years of 6 October amazing victory. It is still being studied in institutes and military academies across the world.

He pointed out that experts of the military affairs and armament changed their programs and tactics following that war.

He further added that a factory of torpedo boats in Taiwan stopped producing that type of boats after two Egyptian boats fired two torpedoes at Elat, the biggest war ship in the Israeli navy.

Experts tuned up to study deeply how the Egyptian officers sent Elat to the blue depths of the Mediterranean Sea.

Maj. Gen. Samir Farag went on to say that the Egyptian Armed Forces started a new phase after the war of 5 June, 1967 to liberate the occupied land in Sinai Peninsula.

The Egyptian army had begun an attrition war against the Israeli army.

Throughout years from June 1967 to October 1973, Egypt rebuilt the army and re-armed it.

The Egyptian workers and scientists raised the rockets’ wall on the western bank of the Suez Canal in the years advanced the victory of 6 October war.

The Egyptian people sacrificed more and supported the armed forces as they hope to attain the victory over the Israelis.

Maj. Gen. Samir Farag revealed that commander of the Israeli Air Force sent an open signal to all Israeli pilots to avoid the Suez Canal within range of 15 km.

The Egyptian infantry crossed the canal in secure condition as the Israeli war planes did not attack them during the crossing.

It is worth mentioning that Golda Meir, Israel’s PM and Moshe Dayan, her Defense Minister, announced defeat of Israel during an international news conference.

Farag praised a number of October war for their heroic performance over the war.
