South Africa’s ambassador to France, Emmanuel Nkosinathi Mthethwa, has died after falling from the 22nd floor of a Paris hotel, according to "The Telegraph".
According to French media outlet Le Parisien, the 58-year-old diplomat was discovered near the Hyatt Hotel at Porte Maillot on Tuesday. He had been reported missing a day earlier after his wife alerted authorities, saying she had received a troubling message from him that evening.
Concerned he may have taken his own life, police launched a search in the woods west of Paris before his body was later found.
Mr. Mthethwa had been serving as ambassador to France since February of last year and was also South Africa’s permanent representative to UNESCO. His death comes after a long career in politics and diplomacy.
