On Monday, 106 Russian prisoners of war were released in exchange for 100 Ukrainian prisoners of war, according to both Russia and Ukraine.

The defenders of Mariupol city and its Azovstal steel mill, kidnapped in the early months of the war, were among the Ukrainians who were freed, according to a Telegram message by Andriy Yermak, a presidential assistant for Ukraine.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, discussions resulted in the release of the country's captives.

From the start of the conflict in February 2022, Russia and Ukraine have periodically exchanged prisoners in a rare instance of direct interaction between the adversaries.
