Russia has once again invited young actors from BRICS+ countries to take part in the InteRussia Theatre Arts Fellowship in 2026, bringing emerging theatre professionals to Moscow for an intensive programme focused on acting, stage movement, and performance, TV Brics reported on Thursday.

The fellowship will be hosted by the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts – GITIS in cooperation with the A. M. Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, the TV BRICS International Media Network, and the Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation Mezhdunarodniki. The programme is held within Rossotrudnichestvo’s flagship “New Generation” initiative, with support from the Presidential Grants Foundation.

The 2026 programme is aimed at senior students of theatre and film schools, as well as young professional actors. It will run in Moscow from 24 August to 3 October 2026, with applications open until 31 May 2026.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore Russian theatre traditions through practical training and cultural immersion. The fellowship includes masterclasses in acting and stage speech, workshops in stage movement, meetings with prominent cultural figures, and visits to leading Moscow theatres. At the conclusion of the programme, fellows will present stage études and excerpts from theatrical works.

Grigory Zaslavsky, Rector of GITIS, said the fellowship is not only about teaching, but about building an active creative dialogue between cultures. He noted that the programme allows participants to engage deeply with the Russian acting school, contemporary approaches to actor psychology, and the evolving legacy of Konstantin Stanislavski, while also offering Russian instructors fresh perspectives from international participants.

From the media and cooperation side, Aleksandra Burman said TV BRICS supports humanitarian and cultural initiatives that strengthen international ties. She noted that the network acts as co-organiser and main information partner of the InteRussia programmes, ensuring wide international coverage and fostering professional exchange across BRICS+ countries.

The InteRussia fellowship cycle was launched in 2021 by the Gorchakov Fund to strengthen academic, cultural, and public ties between Russia and young professionals worldwide. According to Sergey Orlov, the programme will mark its fifth anniversary in 2026, having hosted more than 500 fellows from over 70 countries. He described the theatre arts fellowship as the most creative element of the InteRussia initiatives.

The programme was originally developed during Russia’s BRICS chairmanship year. In recent editions, participants have come from countries including Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Argentina, Iran, Tunisia, Mauritania, and Cuba. In 2024, TV BRICS produced a documentary highlighting the experience of participating actors, further expanding the programme’s international reach.
