GEM's Restoring Director Honored after Revamping Khufu's Second Boat

Eissa zidan Abdel Sameea, director of restoring and transferring antiquities at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), has just obtained a doctorate degree with high honors from Faculty of Antiquities at South Valley University.

He is leading a team working on restoring the second boat of King Khufu, of the Old Kingdom in Ancient Egypt.

The committee of discussing recommended to print and exchange the dissertation with the other universities across the world.

The tract was titled “ Ways of interference, treatment and suggestions for showcasing of Khufu’s second boat in vicinity of the Great Pyramid in Giza.

The treatise includes four chapters.

The first chapter touches with the Egyptian boats in pre-dynasties era up to the end of the Old Kingdom.

The second chapter dealt with the archometeric studies, examinations and analyses used in evaluating deterioration of the second boat of Khufu.

Meanwhile, the third chapter examined the effect of some materials used in maintaining and strengthening wood planks of the royal boat.

Finally, the fourth chapter previews the ways of treating and restoring components of the such as the wood, ropes and metal pieces.

The researched concluded some results about ways of treatment, interference and suggestions of showcasing of the second boat of King Khufu next the Great Pyramid in Giza.
