Remembering Hassan Hosny on His Birth Anniv.

Today, June 19 marks the 83rd birth anniversary of late actor Hassan Hosny, the so-called "EL-Kshash."

Hosny is more than a comic genius. Born in Citadel district, in 1936, he is also one of the most prominent and iconic comedian actors ever, having risen to fame in the 80th era of Egyptian cinema history.

His comic timing and acting are known and appreciated by the audience and the charismatic actor-comedian has induced fits of laughter among many Arab generations and many more to come.

The late star became a comedy icon through his performance on screen, with a career spanning more than five decades.

Hosny also has been the definition and benchmark of comedy for a long time now. His seminal works have made the world of theater and cinema laugh, cry and feel for years and still continue to leave their charm.

While in school, he developed an interest in theater and made his public acting debut at a school concert.

After his graduation, he made his cinematic debut with a small role in the Karnak movie, starring the iconic actress Soad Hosni and late actor Nour El-Sherif.

He made his breakthrough with "Sawak Al-Atutbis" (Bus Driver), in 1983, directed by the remarkable director Atif Al-Taib.

After "Sawak Al-Atutbis", he started getting recognized and bigger roles came his way. eventually became famous as a comedian in films, he was more well known as a villain in various TV series.

Throughout his long-standing career, he featured in a number of successful television series, such as “Awlady Al A’izaa Shukran” (“Thank You my Dear Children”), “Al Sanbasah”, “Jawary bella Qioud” (“Unhindered Maidens”), “Nass Modern” (“Modern Folk”), “Bawabat Al Halawany”, “Al Mal wa Al Banoun” (“Property and Children”), “Amira fee A’bdin” (“A Princess in A’bdin”), “Ayn Qalby” (“Where is my Heart?”), “Joha Al Masry” and “Zaman E’mad Al Din”.

He also played major roles in famous plays such as When father sleeps, The nightmare, On the sidewalk, El wad Shatara, Walnut and almond, Afrotto, Wives of Hala, The House of the Late, Beautiful explosion, Mind you crazy, Endurance in the hands of my mother-in-law, Hold me tight, Me, her and the Computer, The Hanim's car, Girls Marriage and Sons of Raya and Sakina.

The maven actor is known for appearing in over 343 films, and 28 theater plays, and acting in over 129 series.

His last series was “Sultant El-Moez”), in 2020, in which he starred along with the renowned actress Ghada Abdel-Razik, the talented actors Mahmoud Abdel-Moghni, and  Mohamed Loutfi.

He also received numerous awards for his efforts in enhancing the showbiz industry, including the state award for Art and an award for his role in the film “Dimaa A’la Al Asfalt” (“Blood Stains on the Tarmac”) and five awards for his brilliant role of Rokba in Dawoud Abdel-Sayed’s Sareq Al-Farah (Wedding Thief), which opened the inaugural Egyptian National Film Festival in 1995. He also won the Faten Hamama Appreciation Award at the 40th Cairo International Film Festival in 2018.

Moreover, he is known for joint collaborations and associations with legendary and renowned Egyptian stars like Adel Emam, Youssra, Hala Fhaker, Henadi, Karim AbdelAzia, Ahmed Zaki, and, late Ala Waly Eldin.

His memorable roles were always in the Egyptian low-class milieu where she used to portray thug and botcher roles such as ‘Haha’, ElZalim wl Mazloum',  'Wahed mn Elnas', ‘Ghabi Meno Feih’ and El-Hagama movie.

The remarkable actor's contribution to film and television has been massive and her illustrious career boasted of several major projects, according to critics.

“His great amazing career and immeasurable contributions to Egyptian cinema will make the legendary comedian alive despite his death," Tarik el-Shenawy said.
