Remembering Farouk El-Feshawy on His 71st Birhth Anniv.

Today marks the birth anniversary of Egyptian cinema’s acclaimed actor Farouk El-Fishawy.

The actor, who died in July 2019, would have been 71 today.

His charm, versatile acting, and unique approach to each one of his roles made him one of the legends of Egyptian cinema.

On Farouk El-Fishawy’s birth anniversary, let's know some facts about him:

In a career spanning four decades, the late actor worked in 130 movies and 50 TV series and emerged as one of the highest-paid actors who deployed his impeccable sense of humor.

Born in the Menofia governorate on February 16, 1952, El-Fishawy received his Bachelor’s degree in general medicine and then earned his degree from the Arts faculty, where he studied Literature.

El-Fishawy's talents were first spotted by noted filmmaker Mohamed Fadil.

His first breakthrough in film came with “Abnai Elaza’a Shukrn’ alongside the iconic actor Abdel Moniam Madbouly.

Later, he acted in numerous prominent films, starting and working with renowned Egyptian stars like Adel Emam and The King Farid Shawky.

He introduced the Arab cinema audience to the action-comedy genre through (His Highness Hanafy) 'Hanafi Al-Oubha'. Directed by Mohamed Abdelaziz, the film starred the actor EL-Feshawi as an inspector named Sherif Barkat who releases a prisoner temporarily with the aim of using him to find and capture his old gang.

After that, the remarkable actor became one of the Egyptian and Arab world’s top male stars for much of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s in the heydays of Egyptian cinema.

He also featured in a number of international movies like "The United", in which he played the role of a legendary Egyptian football coach who is brought back from retirement by his former star player to train a team of pan-Arab misfits in Jordan to compete against France in order to secure funding for their football academy.

El-Fishawy married three times. The first marriage was to renowned actress Samia al-Alfi, from 1972 until their divorce in 1992. They had two sons, Omar and Ahmed.

The Egyptian actor revealed in October 2018, during the opening of the Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival’s 34th edition, that he had cancer without revealing further information.

In 2019, the veteran star died at the age of 67 after battling cancer for several years.

Among his notable works are “Abnai Elaza Shukrn’, ‘Lailt Alkabd Aala Fatama’, Mutarada Fi al-Mamnu (1993), ‘Ghadan Sa’antaqem; (1980), ‘Hanafy al-Obaha’ (1990), ‘La Tasalni Man Ana’ (1984), ‘Siriyun Lilghaya’ (1986), ‘Nessa Khalf al-Qodban’ (1986), ‘Qahwat al-Muaridi’ (1981), ‘El-Mar’a el-Hadeedeya’ (1987), ‘Fatat Min Israeel’ (1999), ‘Al-Fadiha’ (1992) and ‘Dik Al-Barabir’ (1992).

He also won numerous awards, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for best actor in a leading role, and several awards from The National Theater Festival, and Khartoum Arab Film Festival's Fourth Edition.
