Ramadan in Time of Corona… Different Taste

This year the holy month of Ramadan will have a different taste, habits, and rituals that people have not ever experienced before, for the first time Ramadan comes at the time of Corona; this year there will be no Ramadan mercy tables (Mawa'ed Al-Rahman); We will not be able to break our fast among families, relatives, and friends; we will not hurry to the mosques to perform the Isha prayer and Taraweeh (the special evening prayers of Ramadan).

These are our Egyptian customs and traditions which give this holy month its sweetest features. However, necessity knows no law; social and personal safety urges social distancing, isolation and low densities.

The human health is precious, we can protect ourselves and our loved ones from every evil when we replace this customs by small gatherings and convert our houses into mosques where we can perform our religious rituals of fasting, prayer, asking God to remove the Coronavirus pandemic so that we can return to our normal daily lives.

We will gather in front of the television screens, watching the Ramadan drama, which I hope will convey high values and principles that come in line with the interest of the state and society and to move away from the acts of bullying, sedition, and selfishness.

This year the whole family will spend more time in front of the TV screens; as there will be no Ramadan tents, work night shifts and Suhoor outings…. We will all adhere to the precautionary measures and instructions issued by our government and the whole world to preserve the health of the peoples… Thank God... Egypt is still safe.

I pray to God to help us confront this greatest enemy that threatens the whole world… In just two months, this the dreaded Coronavirus has taken control of all countries, infecting more than 2.5 million people, killing more than 150,000 people… even the strongest world health systems are suffering from its devastating effects.

The whole world agreed that effective treatment to counter this pandemic is social distancing, isolation and staying at home …the the whole world becomes locked into homes, no exit, no travel, no trade, no flight, no tourism, no entertainment, no beaches, no parks… Just waiting and home quarantine.

O Allah protect us from this dreaded pandemic… O Allah, accept our prayers, our fasting, our standing in worship, our bowing and our prostration.
